FamilyMart Malaysia has stopped selling alcoholic beverages at its stores nationwide to allow Muslim customers to shop in ease.

Managing Director of QL Maxincome Sdn Bhd, Chee Li Khai, said the decision to stop selling was implemented in March to ensure that customers do not have concerns about non-halal shopping and dining at its stores.

Chee Li Khai noted that alcoholic beverages do not contribute much to the business, so the decision is expected to have very little impact. They will rely on food and beverages to fill the sales gap.

He also mentioned that its new concept store, FamiCafe, has received Halal certification from the Islamic Development Authority (JAKIM), making it the first Halal-certified convenience store cafe in Malaysia. There are currently 16 FamiCafe's across Malaysia and their goal is to open 50 FamiCafe's by the end of the year and to have 300 Halal certified by 2025.
