President of France, Emmanuel Macron has named former labor minister Elisabeth Borne as France's new prime minister in preparation for June's elections.

In early 1990, After Francois Mitterrand became president, Edith Cresson held the post of prime minister for a short term. Borne would be the first female prime minister after Edith Cresson.

It is also the second time in over 30 years that a woman appointed to the position.

Borne, 61, also said in her inauguration speech: “I want to dedicate my nomination to all little girls and tell them to go all the way pursuing your dreams.”

He said his new prime minister in line with his promise to prioritize climate and environmental issues now, which was also a concern for electors.

Cresson also said: “I think this is a very good choice.”

Borne has been described as a successful and gentle officer who served under a few ministers before joining Macron and had a lot of experience.
