Director James Cameron revealed in a recent interview with the New York Times that during the production of his upcoming film “Avatar: The Way of Water”, it was not a process without impediment between him and 20th Century Fox executives.

Cameron helped develop the technology used in filmmaking and animation of the movie Avatar” which captivated audiences decade ago. Cameron and cinematographer Vince Pace shot the film using the Fusion Camera System where the camera system was used in Academy Award-nominated films like Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo” and Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi”.

Cameron explained that he felt like they were conflicting about something and said “For example, the studio felt that the film should be shorter and that there was too much flying around on the ikran – what the humans call the banshees. Well, it turns out that’s what the audience loved the most.”

“And that’s a place where I just drew a line in the sand and said, ‘You know what? I made Titanic. This building that we’re meeting in right now, this new half-billion-dollar complex on your lot? Titanic paid for that, so I get to do this,” said Cameron.

Cameron explained it's a very stressful process when you edit a film because you have to fight for every frame that's left. He added that, “I felt pretty good about the creative decisions that were made back then. We spent a lot of time and energy improving our process in the decade-plus since.”

Nearly 13 years after Cameron's successful 2009 film “Avatar,” “The Way of Water” is also set a decade after the first film, and tells the story of Jack Sully (Sam Worthington) and his new family after leaving the human body permanently to become one of the Na'vi on planet Pandora, protecting their planet with his wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and future Tsahìk of the clan.

Cameron's remastered “Avatar” will be re-released in theatres starting September 23 in IMAX and 3D formats, followed by the long-awaited sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” in theatres December 16.
