The singer-songwriter from Surrey, real name Alexander O'Connor, appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of intentional touching without consent, and his trial is scheduled for January 3.

A statement issued on his behalf said that Alex is appalled by the allegations that he denies and looks forward to clearing his name in court. Due to the ongoing proceedings, he is unable to make any further comment.

The Sun reported that the alleged assaults took place in a taxi and at his home in London in early June.

The following month, the singer posted a message that he was cancelling tour dates in Europe, Australia and New Zealand because “due to unforeseen personal circumstances, I am having to spend some time at home this year”.

He has been released on unconditional bail until the trial.
