The single mother said the staff had a bad attitude and asked her to consider becoming a Singaporean citizen because she is Malaysian but does not know Malay.

The single mother, Ms. Ng, complained in her Facebook post that she had been given a hard time by the officials at the counter at the City Transformation Center in Johor Bahru, and that she was again treated badly when she renewed her passport with her daughter yesterday. She felt helpless.

The women queued for about an hour before it was their turn. When the staff asked her daughter how old she was and they answered in English, he started to ask her daughter to answer in Malay and emphasized that it had to be in Malay and asked if they were Malaysian.
