A London-based stockbroker, Joachim Klement, has forecast the victory of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a model which successfully predicted the 2014 and 2018 World Cup winners. According to the model prediction, Lionel Messi’s Argentina will beat Spain in the semi-final, and proceed to the final against England.

It predicts that Argentina will win against England and lift their first World Cup in 36 years. Klement cautioned that the process of prediction includes “an element of chance”. He said that he had been working in the financial services industry for more than 2 decades.

The model predicts the outcome of the 2022 FIFA World Cup by considering factors including team strength, and socioeconomic variables. The socio-economic variables that were considered include per-capita GDP, population size, and country temperature.

Besides Klement’s model, several investment banks have also published predictions using different models. Goldman Sachs used data on 6000 matches to predict the winner of Euro 2020. Goldman Sachs model predicted England to be the winner of Euro 2020. England ended as a runner-up for the Euro 2020.

The rivalry between England and Argentina was amplified in the infamous “Hand of God” incident, whereby Diego Maradona scored controversially in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final in Mexico. Klement stated that his love for the football game exceeds his marriage and his children.
