Our Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin told Umno leaders who are urging GE15 to be held soon to “stay in your lane”.
The MP for Rembau said the decision to hold a general election is the prime minister's prerogative.
“I want to convey to our party leaders that we respect your point of view that you need to hold a general election soon, but please stay on your lane. The decision to dismiss parliament is entirely at the discretion of our prime minister,” he said.
Khairy also said that those who wished to hold an election immediately were not considering the need to prepare the election machinery and necessary resources.
GE15 is serious which need taking time for preparation
“This is a serious matter and I think our prime minister (Ismail Yaakob) realized that we need time to prepare for both the country and also the party,” he said.
Former Prime Minister Najib Razak recently warned that delaying GE15 could lead to another defeat for Barisan Nasional (BN).
Meanwhile, Khairy also explained that there are three main factors that we need to consider before holding a general election, namely the country's readiness for public health, economic recovery and political considerations.
Lastly, he also said that there is nothing urgent must holding a general election now.
