In an interview with the Singapore media, Khairy described UMNO as a “political beggar” and said that their future was in doubt after losing the support of the Malays. They are still able to survive under the existing leadership, but it is no longer the same as before.

Khairy said UMNO can still survive, but they will become a very weak party and become the third choice for the Malays. For Pakatan Harapan, they are a burden because it will further reduce the support of Malays.

He believes that in the upcoming 6-state election, UMNO and Pakatan Harapan will probably have a hard time gaining support in the states where Parti Islam and PN are in power. And this situation is favorable to PN.
